As a long-time distance runner with over 20 years of experience, I have always prioritized staying injury-free. What has allowed me to achieve this is my commitment to cross-training at the gym. Strength training has been a significant part of my life. I began weight training in my twenties, at least twice a week, often more, because I wanted to not only look strong but also feel strong.
Many myths have discouraged women from lifting weights. I understand that it can be intimidating for women to walk into a gym and lift a dumbbell, especially in what has traditionally been a male-dominated space. Society has long ingrained the notion that only men should have visible muscles and look strong, while women should appear feminine and “weak.” This is far from the truth because women can be just as strong and confident as men.
Having someone to motivate me to lift has always been essential, whether it be a partner or a personal trainer. A few years ago, I found Cristina . I had two criteria in mind. First, I wanted a tough trainer who would push me harder than I could push myself (I am already pretty hard on myself when it comes to working out). Second, I wanted someone who practiced what they preached—someone who looked like they trained hard. I have never been afraid of challenges, physical or mental, and I knew Cristina embodied that. The icing on the cake was that Cristina, being a runner herself, understood my needs. She knew the exercises I needed in the gym to enhance my running, my primary sport and passion, and to keep me injury-free.
Cristina is by far one of the best personal trainers in the area, and I highly recommend her, especially to my runner friends. She will ensure you achieve your running goals by tailoring a plan that keeps you strong and injury-free for your next race.
